Oma maa’s coproduction

(Updated April 2023)

Oma maa has at the core of its working the notion, that by changing the production, distribution and consumption of our basic needs system as that of our food and energy, we can be developing pathways towards socially and ecologically better, as well as healthier communities, and through this society.

This notion finds its expression in various ways in Oma maa’s workings. Oma maa is a community supported agriculture initiative, in which producer and food members form a web of mutual support, which for Oma maa then refers to besides a financial relation importantly also to our processes of co-production.

Co-production stands for the learning and doing together of producer and food members in peer to peer pedagogical processes, whilst working towards our social and ecological objectives.  Co-production is essential for Oma Maa to reach its potential and realize the link between us, the land, and our food. Collectively we are directly and indirectly asking and answering to the questions of what is it we want to achieve and how do we get there in socially and ecologically sustainable ways..

Ofcourse, the extent to which we collectively are able to correspond to the needs on our farms also matters with regards to the concrete outcome of our efforts. Our capacity to weed affects our harvest, and our capacity to harvest affects our food bag contents in summer, but also throughout winter. Also these dynamics are a part of our collective learning process.

We are having a co-production recommendation of 16 hours per summer or winter season. Everyone is welcome to join in the coop’s activities on and off farm as much as anyone wants, whilst we also understand when this is simply not at all possible. Also our investors are welcome to join whenever wanted!

There are different ways in which you can be involved in the activities of the coop. We inform about them either by email to our members or in our facebook closed group.

1. On the farm – continuous call
It is possible to join activities on the farm throughout the week, increasingly also on Saturdays as the season furthers. During the week there is lunch on the coop. In the weekend everyone is asked to bring their own refreshments (except for during our so called “social saturdays”, see below).

We remind once a month of the possibility to come out throughout the week to the farm. Via the Oma maa talkootyöt spreadsheet “Coworking 2023” tab you are able to notify of your coming, get or offer a ride. In case of any questions, welcome to write to jasenet@omamaa.fi.

2.On the farm – fast specific calls
Every now and then we will be informing of more suddenly upcoming needs on the farm to respond to, for instance when it is urgent to head out in the weekend to get planting deadlines met, or when it is vital to get the hay in before upcoming rains.

We inform you of these urgent needs separately by email and in our facebook closed group. Via the Oma maa talkootyöt spreadsheet “Muut talkoot & social saturdays” tab you are able to notify of your coming, get or offer a ride. In case of any questions, welcome to write to jasenet@omamaa.fi

We have also created a Oma maa äkkilähtö whatsapp group, an Oma maa rapid response team, which is a group of people that agrees to being contacted on short term notice to check for their availability. If you are wanting to be added to the group, welcome to write to jasenet@omamaa.fi

3. On the farm – Social Saturdays
Once a month we want to organise a day on the farm where we will also integrate some other elements into our co-working day. Besides making sure that we will make and enjoy a meal together, we will also include on the program elements which could be for instance a walk or a talk or perhaps a yoga session.

We inform you of the Social Saturdays separately by email and in our facebook closed group. Via the Oma maa talkootyöt spreadsheet – “Muut talkoot & social saturdays” tab you are able to notify of your coming, get or offer a ride. In case of any questions, welcome to write to jasenet@omamaa.fi

4. Off farm – Foodbag distribution
You can be taking a foodbag distribution shift on Kaarlenkatu, for a part or the whole time of the shift. For this, welcome to contact Laura (gustafssonlaura(at)gmail.com). Signing up for a shift happens via the Oma maa talkootyö spreadsheet – satojako tab. The Kaarlenkatu satojako group has their own WhatsApp-group, where the latest is exchanged. 5. Off farm – Working groups
We are in the process of (re) establishing different working groups, as around our Communications and Finances. We will be notifying of those here, as soon as we are ready to take them forward.

Timecredits from Helsinki Timebank
If you have co-worked for more than the recommended 16 hours during a given season, you can choose to receive tovit/timecredits from Helsinki Timebank for additional hours worked (1 tovi / hour). To do this, you must create your own account with Helsinki Timebank via the Helsinki Timebank website. You will find the necessary information about the workings of the time bank on the website. After registering, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to go about things in the time bank. You can then claim time credits from Oma maa’s account to your own account. If you want more information, you can contact Ruby (jasenet@omamaa.fi).

Welcome to join in at any time!
